About Us

Avian Health Products was established to make products available that are based on good science and knowledge with a good measure of commonsense thrown in. The emphasis of the company is toward enhancing health and preventing disease, minimizing the need for medications. We know that bird owners want to provide the best care possible for their birds, and that care needs to fit into a busy schedule. Our products are designed to help you improve the quality of care you provide your bird in easy to manage ways.

The company’s founder has a strong background in companion birds and the companion bird industry. Jeanne Smith, DVM obtained her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Avian Sciences at the University of California, Davis. She received her veterinary degree at UC Davis, as well. She then completed an avian medicine internship at North Carolina State University, School of Veterinary Medicine and an avian medicine residency at UC Davis. She was the director of the largest intrastate biologics laboratory in California (PHL Associates, Inc.) before starting her own all avian veterinary practice. She was also the consulting veterinarian for Roudybush, Inc. from 1988 to 2007. It was through her experiences in private practice and consulting for a companion bird feed company that she saw a need for certain products that would help people and their birds. Her probiotic research began in 2001 in collaboration with PHL Associates, Inc. The initial product offerings of Avian Health Products are the results of many years of research.

Our marketing and distribution director is Keith Schath.  Keith worked many years in graphic arts prior to a career in marketing.  He was the general manager and marketing/distribution director for Roudybush, Inc. from 1996 to 2000, providing him with a good understanding of the pet bird marketplace.

Our goal is to make products available that help prevent disease and thereby reduce the need for medications and the stresses of treatment associated with them. We recognize the importance of the human-bird bond and the enrichment birds bring into peoples’ lives. We hope that our products support that very important relationship between birds and their owners.
